Hand Controls
From my experiences on animating hands I had a very clear idea on how I wanted my hands to control. Firstly, the IK box in the image has no added attributes except for the IK/FK swtich, it's rotation and position control the arm and hand (position for the IK, it's rotation controls where the hand points). Next I wanted to be able to plant the hand at any time, so as in with a foot rig I included another IK handle that runs from the writst to the palm to lock in rotation. Finally I wanted individual joint control over the fingers without having to animate on the joints, so the curves handle that, allowing me to select all the curves and move all of the joints at the same time. I am very pleased with the way they handle.
